IMAM 5th medicaL symp0siuM 2008

sat, 29 march 2008

a big applause to IMAM for the success of the annual symposium that attracted medical students and professionals from all over Dublin, Cork, Manchester, Leeds, London etc. i wud rather say that to join this kinda thing was a call. i mean, before this, i just have the intention to go and i kept it to myself. then slowly, it juz vanished away, blown away by the freezingly cold wind of dublin :p

so many things that we ought to learn along the way. and the process of learning will never stop till the final call comes to us. i wud like to reflect on the symposium itself. so ok jamiey, enuf wif the crap!~

my fav was Prof Dr zabidi. he rawks man! digestive yet strong points were presented by him...and most importantly, all the points are practical!!!

"If u want to realize what u have as a Dr, come out from the womb! face the reality"

dush! big slap right on my face. i realized that to be sum1, confront the reality, not avoiding it. okeh fine, i used to have a pessimist thought in my head "do i really have all it takes to be sum1?"

actually, the answer is CLEAR! it's me whoz gonna decide what i want to be. all our destiny has been written down but, to be there, it is strongly determined by how hard we work on it. so shoo to all the negative restrictive thoughts ngee

FACTOR G. it kept playing in my head long after it has been uttered. he even said the 2 magical words to me personally ( hehe yeah i know he rox :p). do goodness and it will come back to u! maybe in other form. sure Dr!!!

i personally like his opinion on answering the question "serve in msia or overseas?" i guess he tackled the question in  a very good way. the followings were what he said:

  • being here is not a coincidence. but think, how much can u give back to pay all the tax payers? have ur goals in head.
  • dun limit ur contributions to malaysians. [ sure it's true. i mean we need to serve our own people but that is not the only thing that we need to do. go internationally because not only msians need ur service but open ur eyes widely and observe, how many people out there are waiting for good hands to comfort them? how many children in desperate needs of food? how many refugees out there are putting their life at risks?]
  • are u contributing? what form of contribution?the career of so called a Dr is a life long commitment. life long devotion even it means sacrificing throughout ur life span huu~
  • it's not the place that matters, but what we do matters d most!

the art of healing is beautiful! it's a career, it's an ibadah, it's a form of da'wah. to achieve the ultimate goal to jannah!

the message was too heavy and it took me sometime to digest the gist :p

be humble! ok it's cliche but i keep to repeat this to myself over and over again. i cnt really remember who gave the speech but he said this"

" u need 'em (patients) MORE than they need u sometime!!~"

so Dr, there is nothing really great of being one so put aside that arrogant feeling. human beings are complement to each other. u have that expertise and they have theirs. so we have balanced population living mutually exclusive and exhaustive ngee :p. dont be that so called bodoh sombong! learn wuteva u cud, from whoever u met regardless of anything!~

one more food for thought: the patient has a disease vs disease that a patient has

ok Dr, pick one!

disease that a patient has - those who picked this tend to focus on the disease of the patient. the is no black and white answer. this kind of Dr may develop good diagnosis, good investigation, good management and end result: the patient is discharged feeling good! it's good isn't it?

for those who picked "the patient has a disease" is the most likely to be the doctor who will concentrate on the other aspects of the patient, not solely on the disease that the patient is suffered from: social, spiritual, economical etc. remember, we are ordinary human being? all these factors need considerable attention as missing of one element may have profound effects on us as human. i mean, each aspect of an individual shud be treated equally aite?

the rest, i leave it to u guys to think about :p
nite :)
