::sToP bURpinG!!!::

it's not im goin to ask u guys u stop burping ( if u have to, means u have to stop eating :p) but this is my story of what happened today...

after finishing the second pathology lecture ( grand! coz i din sleep during the lec hehe) me n mior headed to stephen doyle's endoscopy suite in lower ground floor...he was scheduled for clinical observation today but not me. i was scheduled for this thingy last week but i skipped it :p.so i went today to replace what i have missed hehe

ok make it short, we had to run and grab white coats from surau as we were not allowed to be in the room without the white coat...keranamu sebuah pengalaman~

ok as we got into the room, i saw the doctor was sitting in front of the pc busy doin his work.he was writing reports on the previous patient...he is from middle east if im not mistaken with some grey hair ( not around the frontal lobe area :p) and stern face...i greeted him and asked his permission to do observation n he said it was ok. the first female patient had colonoscopy and there was no abnormality.

i had to run after him when he went out to ask questions but he asked us to wait for the next two patients...ok good! more good show to go :)

one male patient in his 40s stepped into the room 1. hez bald, looked pale but his eyes are bright. i greeted him, introduced ourselves and ask for his consent to observe the procedure...

"okay no problem. u have to learn something btw" he said while sitting at the end of the bed...o thank you sir! how kind of u!

if pple asked, what do i get studying overseas? this is my answer! i learned how to respect other people's right.  i have an experience of where my right as a patient was violated by so called a good doctor in my hometown. sadly, we msians still lacking of this attitude, asking for consent!for me it's not juz a protocol.. it means respecting other pple's right.and being here, this matter is strictly emphasized in every aspect of our practice. the patient may refuse to be examined if u couldnt make him/her comfortable...

after pethidine and anasthesia were injected intravenously, he got sedated and can barely stay with us. the doctor was performing bronchoscopy on him..inch by inch the camera invaded his bronchus then down to oesophagus. suddenly the patient started to cough as his recurrent laryngeal nerve, a branch of vagus ( yeay mari revise anatomy!) got irritated...the nurse tried to calm him down but he juz coudnt bear the long black thingy that was very foreign to his tissues.he coughed out again and again...

"STOP BURPING!!!" the doctor yelled at him.

o gawd, the moment i heard that, i was shocked. maybe the doctor was too stressed with the work burden mior told me..maybe it's true but the incident was still playing in my head over and over again...

i din blame the doctor nor the patient but, to be honestly say: everyone deserves respect and to be respected, respect others first. the patient was there because he needed u but dun ever forget, one day, we might be needing em more than he needs us!
